Waffle House - The Waiter
9/27/09: Here's a quick note about a conversation with a waiter at a roadside Waffle House restaurant. I started talking with him about the road trip and my retirement. He said that he'd recently retired from Cummins Diesel as an engineer. He didn't have to, but he worked just to be around people. He was completely satisfied with his job and enjoyed talking to the travelers that came and went. He stayed in the area to be around his grandchildren, whom he treasured. He said that he takes it easy at work, and that he's the happiest that he's ever been in his life. That really got me, "The happiest he's ever been in his life". I could say that. It's true, I'm the happiest I've ever been in my life.
