Getting Settled In
It's been 11 days since I made a blog post. The time has been flying by. There's web access at the camp store so I've no excuse for not posting. I'm a little frustrated at not being able to post pictures. Maybe I'll get a chance to work on that. The work here is easy. I am on four days and then off four days. The labor really isn't difficult, I replaced a stop sign knocked down by a camper. I do some cleaning up, but it's not difficult. I've met a real variety of people. Nearly everyone shares the love of the outdoors. Some families come up for their summer vacation. They bring kayaks or canoes to keep the kids busy. Most often the family has some sort of camping trailer that they pull with the family SUV or pickup truck. The trailers are usually pop-up, but some families bring tents. It is not unusual for a family to have relatives with a trailer and meet them here at the park. Confusion occurs when families want to reserve a site close by, but we can't let anyone hold a site for someone else. It's first come, first served, strictly enforced. Getting used to the rules and the duties has taken some time. I'm getting to know the sites and how large a rig fits in each. My off days have been mostly spent motorcycling. There was a great ride I heard about yesterday.I followed a gravel road up to 5000 feet to the top of Mt. Albert. There ewas somelight rain, but the forest was so dense and remote I did not want to stop. I made it into a loop tthrough Hiawassee and enjoyed that. Meeting and hanging around the campers has its moments. I seem to get close very easily, get invited for dinner or sometimes have food brought over, and I enjoy that, but the families always leave. The solution seems obvious, but Getting to be friends with people and then have them leave is a little frustrating. We trade email addresses, and I've been staying in touch, but I still don't like it. I think I'll just have to learn to keep to myself a bit more. It's work, so treating it like work is important. And I live here, right where I work, so I have an opportunity to set and maintain healthy boundaries. Work, yes, but the environment is wonderful. I'm watching the form sale signs on the houses as I drive around. Wouldn't it be nice to live here!
