Things are settling into a routine here at the park. I work 6 hours a day starting Saturday and finish on Tuesday. Work assignments vary, and there is no real set plan. Things are relatively loosely scheduled. Last week I worked the Visitor Center and met a number of campers. Usually campers have been to the park before and just like to stroll through the exhibits we have in the office. There are many hands-on items in a large display. Snake skins, rocks shaped for grinding grain and corn. Lots of rocks identified by number. A variety of petrified woods. The kids love it and usually the grown-ups get their hands dirty also.
One day I was out on the trail using a line trimmer to cut back weeds around our 3.25 perimeter trail. Once it is finished, it stays dormant all winter. It's a nice loop to hike before work in the morning. There's also a trail that goes up to the top of a mesa. They call it Table Rock Mtn., but a mountain it is not. It does offer a great view in all directions. You can see for many miles.
In the morning, just wandering through the rock formations is entertaining and relaxing. Here's a link to our webpage: http://www.emnrd.state.nm.us/SPD/cityofrocksstatepark.html
I understand there is a facebook link that gets updated fairly often. "The City of Rocks" is its name.
Still working on adding pictures. I'm doing my best to blog something at least once a week. Forgive me for delinquencies. It's a bit of a chore to get it all done without a WiFi link within 30 miles of home. All's well here. Best from Jeff and Windy, the cat.
