More Snow in Silver

Okay, this is fun...but when's it going to stop snowing? I took a walk from the campground to the convenience store early this morning. I measured 3.5 inches accumulated on the picnic table. Other customers at the store seemed to be feeling the same sense of adventure and novelty with the rising snow levels. It's noon now, and the snow is still coming down. There is at least 5 inches on the ground. It's not the damp snow I felt the other day, but  a dry powdery fluff that sticks and packs down while walking in it. I'm told that this is the favorite kind of snow for the skiers. Packed powder. I'm sure that the folks in Angel Fire, northeast of Taos are on the slopes already. At times, the snow makes a tapping sound falling on the plastic roof vents in the RV. It's actually hard, tiny frozen ice crystals coming down. It's snow, but without moisture. I assume that's a result of the dry air. The NWS forecast mentioned the possibility of of "ice pellets", in the forecast for this afternoon. I've never heard that term, but it describes perfectly the percipitation that had accumulated on the road as I drove south from Angel Fire in October. 3/8" sized pellets covered the road and with only a few vehicle tracks to follow, the Moho began to lose traction during braking. I think I've described earlier the fear I had as the Moho continued in a straight line toward the dropoff after I'd braked and cut the wheel to the right for a turn. Ice pellets...not hail, just ice nodules on the road. Well...New Mexico is full of surprises. Trying to make plans to go fishing with another camper at a place called Bear Canyon Lake. The Fish and Game Commission stock the lake with 1 foot sized rainbow trout in the fall, and the fishing is very good at that time. But mid-winter, we'll be having to work a little harder to catch fish. I've heard that the cooler temps bring the fish closer to the surface to feed. I'll keep you posted.
