10/9/14: Oh this was wild. I haven't driven in snow for 35 years. I remember snow falling when I rode the bike back to Flagstaff from the Grand Canyon in '03, but it didn't stick to the road. Today I had the 12,000 lb. bus going straight while the wheels were cut to make a turn. Really slippery stuff on the ground, and no ABS. It wasn't falling, but was on the road from the storm that had passed through that area south of Angel Fire, and had stayed on the road. It was a little slushy, and the tire tracks from a couple of previous vehicles made little wet paths, but tapping the brakes consistantly locked up the front wheels. So after the few miles of that, the road decended a bit and it wasn't slippery anymore, but the road was barely a two-lane, with little single lane bridges over the creek between the flanks of pines. It was a beautiful little road, and I pictured my cabin and a 4x4 in the driveway. A wood stove and a big log pile outside. Maybe a snow machine for the days when the plows haven't been out yet. Such a beautiful area. South of Angel Fire, and North of Guadalupita. Just perfect!
After 2 weeks at Cimarron Canyon, Windy was disappointed leaving. We've both eaten well here at Coyote Creek, and will bed down soon. There doesn't seem to be hiking trails here, so we may move on the Storrie Lake SP in Las Vegas, (N.M.). It might be nice to be close to a city for awhile. Maybe! Plans to get together with David and Susan are in the works. I may have to hussle down to City of Rocks on Sunday the 26th, but it's really not all that far once I am in Albuquerque. Anyway, it's about the journey, not the destination.
